Graduating from the SMU Law with High Merit in 2020, You Yuan is a legal associate of the firm.

You Yuan was an active debater at SMU, debating at competitions including the world’s biggest debating tournament in December 2019.

At SMU, You Yuan was also a part of a team that prepared written submissions to the Select Parliamentary Committee for Deliberate Online Falsehoods.

 You Yuan then embarked on his legal journey by undertaking rigorous training of his skills as a civil litigator with a former district judge.

All this has lent itself to You Yuan’s ability to handle litigation matters independently and astutely.

Work Highlights:

Contract Law

  • Ongoing representation as counsel mounting a contractual claim for payment for specialist labour supplied for a bonding project.

Criminal Law

  • Ongoing representation of a client facing a charge for driving without due care.

Civil Procedure

  • Successfully obtained an order for further security for costs at the Appellant Division of the High Court.
  • Conducted an examination of judgement debtor for a judgement debtor for a judgement debt of close to S$2 million.
  • As second chair, sought to obtain a stay in favour of arbitration and alternatively a stay based on forum non conveniens in a claim that involved an arbitration agreement and the laws of jurisdictions including Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
  • Advising a client on the scope of his obligations under an Anton Piller Search Order and advised on the prospected of succeeding in varying the order.

Motor Accident Claims

  • Ongoing representation of multiple clients in seeking compensation arising from motor accidents.

Personal Injury Claims

  • Ongoing representation of a construction contractor in resisting a claim by a worker supplied by a sub-contractor for compensation for a work injury.

Sale of Goods

  • Ongoing representation of Client in resisting a claim for Delivery of Goods. The claim sum is more than S$70 million.

Tenancy Disputes

  • Successfully obtained judgement in favour of a landlord for unpaid rent by its tenant for close to S$70,000.
